Fogg Dam has more snakes than anywhere else in the world! It also has a saltwater croc hanging around. Fogg Dam was going to be our best chance at seeing a croc in the wild. There were enough signs warning you they were about.......
We thought this could be one.......... (it's not we came to the conclusion it was fish but then again we didn't hang around to find out for sure!)
The bird life was amazing! There is a viewing platform at the end of the dam. I made Nath get out first then we all bolted to the top of the tower. We were pretty sure crocs cant climb stairs!
We ran into some "twitchers" who very, very kindly helped the boys look through there very expensive binoculars! When we asked them which birds we were looking at we found that they were regular old ducks and geese they were the whistling variety! From that point forth Magpies were known as "Whistling Magpies", galahs "Flamin' whistlin' galahs" etc etc!
The above sign (which i made Nathan get out and take a photos of! No chance in hell I was getting out there are wild crocodiles on the lose!) was how we found out that Fogg dam has the highest known biosphere of snakes! Millions of rats too! Yuck!
Just past Fogg Dam is a place called window to the wetlands and it has some awesome displays of the local habitats of the animals. The boys loved it. I loved that the aboriginal women at the front desk welcomed us there individually in her native tongue. It was a genuinely friendly welcome and I was touched!
Unfortunately as we visited at the end of the dry we didn't get to see the wetland like this! Once again it goes on the list of things to see next time!
The area around the windows to the wetland it knows as turtle dreaming and is very significant to the birthing of baby turtles!
