A musical vent!

Last night we sat behind a man who commented mid way through the musical that he was going to have to go home and watch The Matrix after the performances. Now I am fairly certain he wanted the people around him to think he was a fair superior intellect than those surrounding him. Epic fail! My husband (who holds a Masters of Aeronautical Engineering degree) and myself (second year university student predominantly pulling distinctions!) thought he sounded like a massive dick! Most parents I am fairly certain are more like myself and Nathan who went home and watched over and over again the video of the musical! It gave a chance to look over and over again at our supremely talented children! Did you see the length Matthew got on his sleeve nose wipe? It took my Dad years to cultivate that kind of talent in me! How about Ryan's nose pick mid way through the number? He didn't even miss a note! We have also decided Matthew definitely has a career in...... community theatre if not Hollywood! Did you get how perfectly he delivered his lines? I found the evening scintillating intellectually and emotionally! I find it really really sad that some poor kid at school went home and did not have praise and congratulations lavished upon him. :(

The Miles Musical.

So tonight was the culmination of weeks of hard work from the kids and teachers at Miles Franklin at The Musical Concert night. For weeks I have listened to various tunes sung out of tune from The Sound of Music. I had to russell up a nuns costume for the boy who refused to wear a dress or anything remotely resembling a dress! We had to google the appropriate period of dress for Ryan to wear because 'old fashion clothing' is a rather large description!

Karate Kids

The boys have started Karate, well actually Tae kwon do. We decided (well I) decided it was no fun dragging the boys to swimming in winter in Canberra. Especially now that Ben is out of the water for the foreseeable future with his ears! So I started looking around for something else they could do in the winter months. After a lot of discussion we decided we would give this a go.

 

 We tried a few centres before choosing to go with Impact Martial Arts. I am so impressed with their program. They really focus on increasing self esteem and confidence. They specifically teach kids how to deal with bullying and that physical retaliation is a last resort. The mantra the boys are spouting now is "Walk, talk, defend!" The boys are taught to firstly walk away. If the bullying continues they need to shout out "Stop! I don't want any trouble!" Which Ben often mistakes for "Stop!" I don't want to get into trouble!" (Guilty much Ben!) I was quite impressed when the teacher explained to the boys the most important reason for shouting this out is because it will attract an adults attention and divert the bullies attention. This week they even learnt how to try and avoid a kidnapper.

 So out of these three which one do you think has the most mongrel in him.....

 This one! He gets really into it and heaven help the poor kid that tried to bully Rye. I can completely see him going postal on the kid!

Needless to say the boys love it! We have had minimal practising on each other. Mainly because the focus is clearly on skills rather than sparing at this age. The boys are improving with every lesson, last night they all got a green thingy to go on their white belt!

Sometimes it is really tough being the youngest!

During our recent trip to Brisbane for Brenton and Kata's wedding we did the usual of dragging the kids from pillar to post in a vain effort to catch up with as many people as was humanly possible. However this usually results in very tired children.....

But as I have shown many many times before on this blog being the youngest and the kind of guy that firmly believes you can keep up with your two older brothers NO MATTER WHAT makes for many pictures to collect and post on mummy's blog for all of eternity!
