Balloon Fiesta

On Saturday morning I wrangled Nana and Poppy out of bed to take a look at the annual Canberra Balloon Fiesta. Poor Poppy wasn't too keen. Being a true Queenslander he isn't into cooler climates and we awoke to our first fog of the autumn. But drag them out of bed the kids and I did. We arrived just in time for the balloons to start being inflated. Unfortunately because of the weather the balloons couldn't take off so all of the balloons were tethered to cars and trees. Poppy was really hoping to see a great gust of wind and 10 4wds hanging by their bull bars in the air! But we got to get up close to the balloons this year.
They are inside an inflated balloon. It was inflated by fans not with gas. Although Ryan was packing his dacks cos he didn't want to be burnt by the fire! Daddy didn't explain that the fire part wasn't working. Ryan just thought he was taking his chances between bursts of fire! How is that look on his face! He hasn't taken his eyes of the entrance! Actually none of the kids have!
The inside of the balloon was really sticky which indicated the balloon was at the end of its life span which is why they were letting us walk in it.

We got to hop into a basket but Ryan was firstly terrified we were going to lift off and secondly afraid of the noise of the burners!

Daddy being artistic with the camera. He is trying to compete with my awesome shots from last year! (We compete photographically at Floriade too!)

Trying to get all three looking in the same direction is impossible!

Couldn't leave without a shot of the Questacon balloon. It was actually the one we got into. Which was the deciding factor in the boys getting into it. They LOVE Questacon!

Happy Birthday Canberra! But we couldn't figure out what was underneath it.

So CUTE!

The ladybugs bum because i got a shot of the kookaburra's bum last year!

Nanna and Poppy with the kids but not quite sure who the reggae homie kid is in the front! Nanna Bev he LOVES all of his beanies!
